Our Mission: Employee Protection
Scenario
The story began in may 1992 when Nordicom (then called Clercom) was asked to create a system to be used by employees of a large hospital, in order to protect them from some patients’ aggressiveness, especially those in psychiatric wards. This device would be used to call for help, whenever necessary, as discretely as possible.
Problem
When dealing with large complexes, which hold many rooms, how does one create a device that can instantly and accurately pinpoint the position of a person in need of help?
Solution
The answer to this specific problem is this: The creation of ultrasonic receptors and transmitters, commonly called Securalert, easy to install and especially easy to use. Employees are now wearing a transmitter (panic button), which sends ultrasounds, undetectable by the human ear. At the receiving end, strategically placed in rooms where the distressed person may be, receivers carry the signal to other devices like pagers, informing them precisely where the call was sent.
The Securalert popularity quickly surpassed its creators’ expectations, mainly because they are more accurate than radio systems and more reliable than infrared systems.
Sales of the Securalert are constantly climbing; youth centres, emergency wards as well as psychiatric wards of large hospitals in Quebec are using them.
